Claudia Barrero, a partner in Prieto & Carrizosa, heads the Firm's capital markets and securities practice. Ms. Barrero specializes in mergers and acquisitions of listed companies and has extensive experience in infrastructure projects and corporate governance matters. She has acted as adviser to issuers on IPO's and debt issues, as well as to several Colombian and international clients in such matters as cross-border mergers and acquisitions and all related capital markets aspects. She has also advised the Colombian government in various privatization processes, especially in the energy sector. In 2004 Latin Lawyer designated Claudia Barrero as one of the "top 20 under 40" lawyers in Colombia. According to Chambers Global 2007 "Claudia Barrero is touted as the "best there is in securities and a lawyer you can truly rely on". She is considered by Chambers Latin America 2009 as a Tier 1 professional in the capital markets and securities practice area. As indicated by Chambers Global 2008 "she is one of the preferred lawyers by the clients, who have the "highest confidence in her legal experience and international exposure".

Prior to entering the Firm, Ms. Barrero was a lawyer at the Araujo Ibarra & Associates Law Firm (1993-1994) and a lawyer of Colombian Project Advisers (1996).

Represented the Gerdau Group in the acquisition of two major Colombian steel companies (Diaco S.A. and Sidelpa S.A).

Represented GWP C.V., an affiliate of Philip Morris International Inc., in the acquisition of more than 98% of the outstanding common stock of Compañía Colombiana de Tabaco S.A. ("Coltabaco"), Colombia’s largest cigarette manufacturer, through a public tender offer in the Colombian Stock Exchange.

Advised the Federación Nacional de Cafeteros, Avianca’s shareholder, on structuring Avianca’s capitalization by the Synergy Group (Oceanair) and on its Chapter 11 process.
